Over the next three weeks, you are tasked with designing a tectonic blind. This structure will serve as a space for individuals to step away, reflect, and observe the world around them.
Objectives:
The objective of this assignment is to design a therapy blind that provides individuals with a secluded space for reflection and observation. This project encourages thoughtful consideration of form, materiality, and context to create an environment that fosters tranquility and connection with the surrounding world.
Grading:
Rigor, Iteration & Investigation: 20%
Students will demonstrate a willingness to practice the craft of exhaustive exploration.
Design Communication: 40%
Students will be able to professionally communicate by writing, speaking and creating clear and accurate presentation graphics and architectural orthographic drawings.
Design Process: 40%
Student will be able to develop projects and problem solve using the iterative design processes.
Deliverables:
Develop & complete the following:
Week 1:
Five sketch models using the materials provided without using any tape, glue, or fasteners.
Sketch plan, elevation and section corresponding to each model.
Week 2:
From your five sketches iterate a new set of three advanced models that brings your project into greater focus.
Develop one diagrammatic analysis of your project proposal and tectonic language.
