As a designer I find solace in the everyday routine and space that we inhabit. I find inspiration in the lives and the places we call home. The mundane becomes beautiful as it traverses between new to familiar. In that gap between phases there is an insight to the truth of a thing, and it is at that moment that our recognition brings forth beauty and intrigue. It is this moment of revelation that as a designer I hope to obtain through my work.
I find that teaching; whether as a coach, design instructor, or teaching assistant has the ability to rejuvenate the spirit and mind. As a teacher for a variety of organizations I hope that my enthusiasm as an instructor gives opportunity to my students to explore new ideas, ways of thinking, or just a break from the grind of their day. It is my interest in the routine of life, of the gradual growth of ideas that I have continued teaching and seek new opportunities to learn and educate.
In art I believe that we are given an opportunity to explore ideas we previously had not considered or thought to foolish to admit. It is in our art, writing, drawing, and creative spirit that I feel able to detach from the product that designers are often bound by. It is a break from my normal and gives entrance to another side of the creative act.
