Assignment 1.1: Cubic Exploration
Due: Week 2 at the start of class
Assignments are to be pinned up at the start of lab on Monday or Tuesday depending on student schedule.
Assignment 1.1 Objectives:
Students will prepare, test, design, and draw the plans of a simple cube. Note that the forms created will be used later in the semester.
Assignment 1.1 Deliverables:
For your first assignment, you will be using a simple block to develop a 3" x 3" cube that follows the rules below.
You must develop an object that fills an area no greater than a 3" x 3" x 3" volume.
Your object must be built with no fewer than (4) Four composite blocks that are constructed from no less than (2) Two 1" x 1" x 1" cubes.
In addition, you will draw a diagrammed "plan" of the three levels of your cube that identifies each layer and an overall plan.
Your final drawing should:
Produce and compose your three-layer plans @ 1" = 1".
Produce and compose your final overall plan @ 2" = 1".
Be drawn with three distinct line weights and line control to express visual depth.
There should be a clear use of line weights.
Include a title block. The title block should include the following information.
Your name
Name of the assignment
Date
Instructor’s name
Assignment 1.1 Learning Outcomes:
Drawing Control: 60%
Students will demonstrate a clear ability to control line weights, line quality, tone, and texture.
Model Iteration: 30%
Students will demonstrate a willingness and ability to practice the craft of developing their project. This may require you to model your project multiple times, exploring multiple ideas.
Rigor: 10%
Students will demonstrate a willingness and ability to practice the craft of developing their project. This may require you to draw an item several times. Develop trace underlays or seek assistance when completing a drawing.
