Design Principles is more than just a design studio. It is a way of thinking. It becomes a system for creating and manifesting a language in which to create architecture. As the first of three core studios at RISD it is meant to help align students with a new way of understanding the design process as they begin their graduate educations.
In a series of exercises we were asked, through an iterative process, to create a tectonic logic that was born from a simple knot in a rope. This evolution allowed us to discover a logic that was the heart of how we manifested spacial language.
